October 21, 2026 · With Ian McDonald

What we’re making with AI.

See how existing work can become a short video, a useful guide or a lesson. Revisit the finished examples, member questions and community-connection demonstration, then choose one small project to try.

The edited replay keeps the group teaching, demonstrations and Q&A. The informal opening and separate after-call support conversation have been removed.

Three short paths through the call

Start with the part you want to try.

Reuse one piece of workI have this existing material: [describe or attach it]. My audience is [audience]. Help me turn it into one [short video / guide / draft lesson]. First inspect the source and tell me what tools and inputs are available. Propose one small result and a checklist I can use to judge it. Keep the result as a draft while we refine it.

This practice prompt is adapted from the session. A saved skill supplies instructions; generation, editing and publishing require the corresponding tools and access.

Bring your own project

Where does your process get stuck?

Making videos: Ella’s question last week was why Ian’s assistant could make videos while hers said it couldn’t. We can look at what the assistant actually needs and where your own process gets stuck.

Building a course: Annette asked about getting from course content to videos with voiceovers. What’s the next piece you need: the teaching, the visuals, the voice, or putting it together?

Characters and stories: Ron was working on microdramas for Camp Prosperity, including voices and scenes. Bring a piece to show, or a question about keeping it consistent. We can also revisit the January event listing.

From this week’s work

A conversation can become an animated story.

Ian went back through Google Meet recordings in Drive, found useful moments, and worked with ChatGPT to turn selected clips into illustrated videos. The original person’s words and voice stay at the center; the pictures become animated.

  3. 03 · MakeCreate illustrated scenes and motion around the original audio.
  4. 04 · ReviewCheck the likeness, timing, captions and meaning before sharing.

Animated example · 27 seconds

Jasheena’s own voice, illustrated.

Jasheena Shelton describes her experience with her content workflow. This is the approved October 15 cut reused in this week’s work, based on her August 5 call. The voice is genuine; the illustrated face and movement are AI generated.

Her time-saving comment describes that experience. This is an edited excerpt, and the generated mouth movement is approximate.

Show and tell

Look at the source, then the result.

  1. Open the call recording in Drive and find the original exchange.
  2. Show the short illustrated version here. Listen for the same words and voice.
  3. Talk through what needed fixing: character likeness, motion, framing, captions or pacing.

“What do you already have recorded that you’d like to use again?”

It could be a useful explanation, a workshop moment, a story, or something a member wants to show. Choose the moment first, then decide how it should look.

ChatGPT coordinates the work with the connected tools and files available in that session. A saved skill supplies instructions; video generation and editing still need the appropriate tools.

Explore a recordingHelp me review this call recording. Find three short moments that would still make sense outside the call. For each, give the speaker, exact source timestamps, surrounding context and why it is useful. Do not invent quotes or make a video yet. Let me choose a moment before we plan the visuals.

New community formats

Something people can use inside a post.

A post can introduce a lesson, offer a calculator, or ask a question with a shared poll. The first native release supports these three formats through connected agents for members and owners, using their existing permissions.

Try the real GIF workshop preview.

The live post has three preview pages with animated examples. Try it in the feed, choose Expand, then open its full-page view.

Community sign-in and the post’s normal access rules apply. This example was published by the connected account named developer.

Explore what each format is good for.

  • Lesson preview: show an example, give people a few pages to explore, and link to the full resource.
  • Calculator: let someone try their own numbers and see a result.
  • Shared poll: collect community votes, rather than saving a choice only in one browser.

Owners and members

Bring your AI into your community.

Last week Annette asked whether members could connect their own assistants. There is now a separate member connection, alongside the owner connection.

Two-minute first-cut explainer. Includes owner and member paths; the member posting example inside the film is labelled QA footage. Use the live pages below for today’s setup.

I own a community.

Connect for eligible community-management work. Review the community, requested permissions and any drafts before publishing.

Open the owner connection

I’m a community member.

Use your community’s Bring your AI link. Read and search discussions you can already access. Replying and creating posts are separate optional permissions.

Connect to Ian McDonald AI

Other owners can share their own community’s connection page. A member connection uses your membership and group access; it does not grant management access.

Check my connectionInspect the LaunchBox tools available in this chat. Tell me which community and groups this connection can access, my role, and what it can do. Read only for this task. Do not post, reply or change anything.

For a live demonstration: confirm the account and destination, read an existing discussion, then draft a reply. Review the exact words before choosing to publish.

Another creative example

A short concept, ready to discuss.

Velocity concept draft.

A 15-second draft from October 20, shown as a work-in-progress video example. It is separate from the Google Meet animation workflow.

This is a concept draft, not a released client campaign.

What would you change?

Look at the opening, the pacing, the images, the sound and the ending. Which part makes the idea clear? Which part still feels unfinished?

For anyone working on courses or demos, Ian also has a finished narrated browser walkthrough with real screen footage and highlights.

Keep the conversation going

What would you like to bring back?

A small experiment, something you want to show, or a question we can pick up together next time. Choose whichever is useful to you.

Your checklist stays in this browser.

Plan one small testI want to try this idea: [describe it]. Help me choose one small test using the tools and material I already have. Tell me what you need from me and what I should inspect in the result. Keep it a draft until I decide what to share.
